Michael Bulgakov
(1891-1940)
|

Born in Kyiv in 1891 the son of an Orthodox priest, Bulgakov later moved
to Moscow where his modernist novels take on their mysterious life. The
Master and Margarita, an exploration of good and evil in Stalinist
Moscow, is a classic and unbelievably popular in Kyiv. Burgin and O'Connor's
translation is impressive and deserves to be read by anyone interested
in Ukraine.
