Francis A. Schaeffer
(1920-1972)
|

The writing of the Schaeffer's has become very important to my personal
life. Schaeffer's armchair philosophy and modified presuppositional apologetics
helped saved my faith once during a dark night of the soul. Edith's L'Abri
gave me a window into the importance of asking tough questions and living
in community. Schaeffer is not be read as one reads academic or scholarly
writing, though. He is more of a Renaissance man. He paints boldly, with
vivid strokes and less attention to detail. But it is that boldness and
Schaeffer's deep conviction that "God is really there" and that "He is
not silent" which compels one to keep reading.
